Gentlemen, Start Your Engines... It's time for...
Albany A Go Go!
Motor Racing at Albany in the 1950s and 60s
From 1957 to 1964, Albany hosted the best motor races in Western Australia. Names such as Syd Negus, Sid Taylor, Lionel Beattie and Peter Bond graced the fields.
They revived the spirit of the first Round-the-Houses from the 1930s but bought with them fast new cars.
Names such as Cooper and Lotus battled with Australian Specials and a new breed of stock cars including FJ Holdens and Minis.
This is the story of Albany's post-war motorsports revival during the late 1950s and the swinging 1960s.
